Vietnamese bells are called  ''Khanh'' which means "instrument for the pagoda."

The khánh is a traditional percussion instrument in Buddhism, carrying the spirit of reverence, serenity, and transcendence. This handheld khánh, also known as a dẫn khánh ("guiding bell"), is cast in bronze with a small handle fitted through a hole at the base. It is gently struck with a slender iron mallet.

In Dharma ceremonies and chanting sessions, the khánh serves as a guiding sound—inviting the community to bow in unison, to return to the present moment, or to harmonize their collective energy. Its clear, resonant tone helps gather the sangha’s awareness and signals transitions in practice.
